The Fifty-third Amendment of the Constitution of India, officially known as The Constitution (Fifty-third Amendment) Act, 1986, provided that no Act of Parliament in respect of the religious or social practices of the Mizos, Mizo customary law and procedure, administration of civil and criminal justice involving decisions according to Mizo customary law, and ownership and transfer of land shall apply to the State of Mizoram unless the Legislative Assembly of the State by a resolution so decides. However, this provision shall not apply to any Central Act in force in the Union territory of Mizoram immediately before the commencement of this Act. The 53rd Amendment also fixed the minimum size of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly as not less than 40 members. ==Text==
